Optical Bucket

This project was submitted in 2017 for Boston University’s Imagineering competition where I was awarded 3rd place. My hypothesis was that you could create an optical communication device without the expense of precision ground mirrors. Instead you could utilize the uniform deformation provided by a vacuum on a flexible mylar surface to create a focused/collimated beam. This is because the overall beam does not need to be waveform perfect if the goal is to just count photons.
